Deb McMillen
Painting

My whole life has been spent doing some form of art. Even during my 40 year career as a scientist, I found time for pottery, stained glass, and watercolor. After I retired in 2014, I began in earnest to work in pastel, acrylic, and gouache. The Pandemic found me painting daily and that has altered how easily I now walk into my studio to paint.

Since 2016 I have painted with Erik Sandgren's coastal painters in July and I almost prefer plein air work to studio work! In 2024 I added oils to my media when I am outside.

I have found a great art community in Corvallis, the Corvallis Art Guild and Vistas and Vineyards Plein air group. Through the Art Guild I have displayed my art in several venues in Corvallis: the Grace Center, Creative Framing, Timberhill, the Samaritan Oncology Center and the Internal Medicine Group and the Corvallis Montessori School. I have been enjoying becoming a part of the Corvallis community through my art!

Speaking to my art, I have a range of work. Some just out of my imagination, some impressionistic, plein air that is not a literal translation of the scene. When I am in a Plein Air Event, such as the Umpqua Plein Air in August, I strive to be more realistic.

The media that I choose is a bit dependent on the weather and what materials I want to carry with me. I enjoy my art and want to share it with you!

Currently You can find my work at John Stromme and Friends Art Gallery in McMinnville.
